A connected home pioneer
Our goal with this project was to extend Logitech's Harmony from a key seller in the A/V space to an intuitive remote control for the connected home.
After stakeholder interviews, installation of too many smart devices in the office, and relentless iteration on universal controls, we ended up with a gesture-driven, minimal interface that reflects the simplicity of the Harmony itself.
Activities + devices
The two sides of this experience’s coin were activities (groups) and devices (individual hardware/software). Users needed to be able to program and construct sequences as well as control specific items with ease.
Given the variability of a household’s devices, we also had to incorporate simple, memorable gestures that would scale across different types of hardware (locks, TVs, lights, and plugs).
My wireframes ended up informing the final UI design nearly 1:1, landing more intuitively with consumers over flashier visuals.
Tap on, tap off, tune in.
Touch events had to be simple, distinct, and work for any device type.
Wireframes left, final design right.
